Understanding ADHD takes more than a computerized test.
Do you or your teen struggle with attention, organization, forgetfulness, impulsivity, time management, or completing tasks—even when you're trying your hardest?
Perhaps you've wondered about ADHD for years. Maybe a teacher or healthcare provider has recommended an evaluation. Or you've already received an ADHD diagnosis and want a better understanding of how attention-related challenges affect everyday life.
At Atascosa Counseling & Consultation Services (ACCS), we offer a personalized, multi-step ADHD assessment process that looks beyond individual test scores.
Our goal is to help clients and families better understand their experiences, identify areas of strength and difficulty, and receive clinically informed recommendations for moving forward.
ADHD doesn't look the same in everyone. Symptoms can vary depending on age, environment, responsibilities, stress, and other mental health or medical concerns.
That's why we don't rely on one questionnaire or computerized test to determine whether someone has ADHD.
Our assessment process may include:
Clinical interviews: Exploring symptoms, developmental history, childhood experiences, daily functioning, and current concerns.
Collateral information: Gathering relevant observations from parents, caregivers, teachers, partners, or other individuals when appropriate and authorized.
Standardized questionnaires: Reviewing ADHD symptom ratings and other clinically relevant screening instruments.
Records review: Examining relevant academic records, report cards, prior evaluations, medical information, or other documentation when available.
Behavioral observations: Considering how the client approaches tasks and responds during the assessment process.
Computerized attention testing: Using the IVA-2 Continuous Performance Test to gather objective performance information.
Clinical integration: Evaluating findings together, including alternative or co-occurring conditions that may explain or contribute to symptoms.
No single ADHD test can establish or rule out a diagnosis on its own. Our clinician considers the full clinical picture before determining appropriate diagnostic conclusions and recommendations.
Megan Garcia, M.Ed., LPC, ADHD-PT®
Megan is a Licensed Professional Counselor with specialized training in ADHD assessment and treatment. She also brings 15 years of experience in education, providing valuable perspective on the challenges that attention, executive functioning, and learning environments can create for students and families.
At ACCS, Megan personally conducts and integrates the diagnostic assessment, including clinical and collateral interviews, questionnaire and records review, relevant behavioral observations, and interpretation of assessment findings.
She works with adolescents ages 12 and older and adults.
Assessment appointments are limited to ensure each evaluation receives individualized attention.
The process begins with an appointment with Megan.
Typically, one to three clinical sessions are needed before determining whether computerized testing is appropriate.
During these appointments, Megan explores current symptoms, developmental and family history, functioning across different environments, and other relevant clinical factors.
Questionnaires, medical information, school records, and observations from others may also be requested.
For existing ACCS clients, your current therapist can help coordinate a referral to Megan.
These clinical appointments are billed separately from computerized testing.
When clinically appropriate, the next step involves the IVA-2 Integrated Visual and Auditory Continuous Performance Test.
IVA-2 is a computerized measure of visual and auditory attention and response control.
It provides information about performance in areas such as sustained attention, response consistency, and impulse control during a structured testing task.
Testing results are interpreted alongside clinical history, interviews, questionnaires, observations, and other assessment findings.
A computerized test alone does not establish an ADHD diagnosis, and additional evaluation or referral may sometimes be recommended.
After testing, Megan reviews the collected information and integrates the findings into a clinical assessment.
A personalized report is prepared to explain the assessment findings, diagnostic conclusions when supported, relevant functional concerns, and appropriate recommendations.
Depending on the client's needs, reports may be prepared for personal or family understanding, medical coordination, educational support, or workplace-related documentation.
Additional or specialized reports can be requested when clinically appropriate and may involve separate fees.
Clients participate in a follow-up session with Megan to discuss their findings.
During this appointment, we review:
What the assessment results indicate—and what they don't
Diagnostic findings and any remaining questions
Areas of strength and difficulty
Individualized recommendations
Potential treatment, coaching, educational, or medical follow-up options
Questions about sharing results with schools, healthcare providers, or other appropriate parties
Following the feedback appointment, signed PDF reports are made available through our secure client portal.
Clients also receive two printed copies of their report and a folder of selected ADHD educational materials and resources.
Our goal is for you to leave with more than test results: we want you to have information you can understand and use.
We believe clients deserve clear pricing before beginning an evaluation.
Clinical assessment appointments: Billed separately at the applicable counseling session rate. Most clients complete one to three sessions before computerized testing.
IVA-2 computerized testing: $300, private pay.
Results review appointment: Billed separately at the applicable counseling session rate.
Written assessment documentation: An individualized clinical findings report is included in our standard assessment process. Additional reports tailored to medical, educational, or workplace purposes may require separate professional documentation fees, disclosed in advance.
We do not bill insurance for the $300 computerized testing appointment.
Eligible clients may use accepted insurance benefits for covered clinical sessions before and after testing, subject to their individual plan benefits and coverage requirements. We accept Aetna, Curative, and United Healthcare.
The cost of the overall assessment varies depending on the number of clinical appointments and any additional documentation requested.
We will explain expected costs and available options before moving forward.
Assessment documentation can be helpful when communicating with other professionals or requesting appropriate support. Depending on the evaluation findings and information available, ACCS may prepare documentation for:
Clients & Families: A personalized explanation of findings, strengths, challenges, and recommendations.
Healthcare Providers: Clinical findings that may assist a physician or other qualified medical professional in considering treatment options.
Educational Settings: Documentation of relevant symptoms, functional limitations, and recommendations to help inform discussions about school or college accommodations.
Workplace Accommodations: Clinically supported information about functional limitations and possible accommodations related to essential job responsibilities.
Requests are reviewed individually. Additional records, assessment, or specialized evaluation may be necessary for some purposes.
A diagnostic report does not guarantee medication, school accommodations, workplace accommodations, or acceptance by a third-party organization. Decisions are made by the appropriate healthcare provider, school team, employer, or other responsible organization.
For clients who have previously completed IVA-2 testing, follow-up testing may be useful in certain circumstances.
Repeat testing can provide updated information about performance on visual and auditory attention and response-control tasks. When prior results are available, we may be able to compare performance across testing dates.
This information can be shared with the client's healthcare provider as one component of monitoring functioning or treatment response.
Repeat scores may be influenced by many factors, including familiarity with the test, sleep, stress, motivation, and medication status. Improved scores do not independently establish that a particular treatment is effective.
Medication decisions remain with the prescribing medical professional.
Retesting is offered when clinically appropriate, with fees and documentation options discussed before scheduling.
Can I schedule the computerized test without first meeting with Megan?
Generally, no. Our assessment process begins with a clinical evaluation to determine whether testing is appropriate and what additional information may be needed.
Will I receive an ADHD diagnosis?
Not necessarily. The assessment may support an ADHD diagnosis, identify other concerns, or indicate that additional evaluation is needed. We do not guarantee a particular diagnostic result.
Can my child use the report to request school accommodations?
When supported by the findings, our documentation can help families communicate relevant clinical concerns and functional limitations. Each school determines eligibility and accommodations through its applicable evaluation process.
Public schools also have independent obligations to evaluate students suspected of needing disability-related services. Families do not necessarily need to purchase private testing before requesting a school evaluation.
Can my doctor use the results when discussing medication?
Yes. With appropriate authorization, assessment findings may be shared with your medical provider. Your prescriber will independently determine whether medication is appropriate.
Is testing covered by insurance?
The $300 computerized testing appointment is private pay. Eligible counseling sessions associated with the assessment may be billed to accepted insurance plans when covered.
What if I'm already a client of another ACCS therapist?
You can remain with your regular therapist while completing the specialized assessment process with Megan. Your therapist can coordinate the referral and ongoing care as appropriate.
Do you offer testing for young children?
Our ADHD assessment service is designed for ages 12 and older. Younger children may be referred to an appropriately qualified pediatric or psychological assessment provider.
Whether you're seeking answers for yourself or your teen, we can help you understand the assessment process and determine an appropriate next step.
